Arabesque Records Announces a New Release for
Christmas 2012
Arabesque Records announces its
newest release (CD Z6845) of the internationally known recording artist,
baritone Steven Kimbrough. His distinguished performing and recording career
spans operatic, musical theater, concert, art and folk song repertory performed
and recorded throughout Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Twice his
recordings of arts songs have been nominated as “Best Vocal Re-cording of the
Year.”
For the current release, “Christmas Lullabies,” Kimbrough
brings together an exquisite group of songs from Austria, England, France,
Germany, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Scotland, Spain, and the USA. He demonstrates
once again his multi-faceted vocal art from elegant pianissimo to eloquent
poetic narration. The songs, from the 15th to 21st centuries, express the
poetical and musical imagination of authors and composers of how the Christ
child might have been sung to sleep by Mother Mary, Joseph, and the angels. The
diverse musical arrangements by Mary K. Jackson complement the varied
compositional styles from folk to art song. Included are “Maria Wiegenlied”
(Mary’s
Lullaby)
by distinguished composer, Max Reger, and “Christkindleins Wiegenlied” (The
Christ Child’s Lullaby) by Viennese composer Erich J. Wolff, and well known
favorites—Appalachian Carol “Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head,” “The Coventry
Carol,” and the Italian song “Dormi, dormi, o bel Bambin.”
